ASHLAND NEWS
By Susan Feeney-Hopkins
The Ashland PTO is once again holding a Box Tops and Campbell’s Labels contest for elementary school students. The contest will take place between Oct. 13 and Nov. 20, 2015.
During this time, students from competing classrooms will collect Box Tops for Education and Campbell’s Labels. There will be two winners. One winner will represent grades pre-K through grade 2 (Lower Wing) and the other winner will represent grades 3 through 5 (Upper Wing).
Each wing will compete against the classrooms on that wing. Prizes will be determined by the winning classroom’s teacher. Students, teachers and school staff should make sure box tops and label codes have not expired.
If someone doesn’t have a child in the school system but would like to donate box tops or labels, they can either donate them to a child they know or they can be dropped off at the Ashland District School office, PTO mailbox.
Portage Lake coins
The Portage Lake Tourism Committee still has town coins from the 2014 Acadian World Congress. There are only 17 available and they are available for the discounted price of $8 each.
Contact the Portage Lake Town Office @ 435-4361.
Historical Society Display
The Portage Lake Historical Society is looking for items associated with the old-time logging/lumber industry in and around the Portage Lake area.
The items will used in a display at the Portage Lake Town Office next summer, which will highlight the rich logging history of the Portage Lake and the surrounding area. The Historical Society would like to collect the items throughout the winter so they can be properly arranged and researched for the final display.
If anyone has anything they would like to share or loan for the display, please bring them to the Portage Lake Town Office. Be sure to mark the items clearly with your name and contact information to ensure they are returned to you. For more information, contact Corrine Routhier @ 227-0819 or arouthier@roadrunner.com FMI.
Book Sale
The Ashland Public Library will be extending their book sale until the end of October! They have had many wonderful books donated to them and would like to pass them on to others.
The cost is 25 cents per book and $2 for DVDs or VHS tapes.
