MAPLETON NEWS
By Tomi Henderson
The towns of Mapleton, Castle Hill and Chapman are sponsoring a photo contest for residents of all three communities. The winning entries will be featured on the cover and within the pages of the 2015 Mapleton, Castle Hill and Chapman Town Report.
Each resident (of any age) may submit two entries and the entry must represent our communities. The photo must have enough contrast and color to print well and must be compatible with a “portrait” position, to fit on the report cover. The resident’s name, address and phone number must be submitted with the photos. There should be no title on the photo, as the town report title will already be printed on the cover.
The three winners will be selected by the town office employees and selectmen. Each of these winners will be awarded a gift certificate for $20 to a Mapleton restaurant of their choice and their photo will be featured in the annual report and on the towns’ website. One “Grand Overall Prize Winner” will be selected from the three and receive an additional $10 gift certificate. His/her submission will also be featured on the cover of the Town Report.
The contest deadline is Jan. 29, 2016. Visit the towns’ website at www.mapleton.me for more information. Take advantage of this beautiful time of year for your photos!
Cemetery cleanup
The Southside and Village cemeteries in Mapleton will be cleaned the morning of Oct. 22, 2015. Please remove all graveside decorations you wish to keep. Otherwise, everything that is not securely fastened to the headstones will be removed. Thank you for your cooperation.
Indoor swim lessons

The nine-week session has 17 swim days for $50 ($25 less than Presque Isle’s fee for non-resident participants). Private lessons will also be available beginning at $12 per lesson.
Registration is now open and will end Friday, Oct. 16. Space is limited and available on a first-come, first-served basis. For more information visit www.mapleton.me or call the town office at 764-3754.
