Aroostook County Retired Educators (AREA) recently took part in “Maine’s Day of Caring,” a day to be held in September of each year.
The retired educators in Aroostook County chose two smaller area schools to be the recipients of the group’s annual project, the Bulging Backpacks. Members of the Community Participation Committee traveled to the Dawn F. Barnes School in Caswell on Sept. 21, 2015 to deliver the backpacks and their overflowing contents. The next day they visited the Connor School where they took part in the school’s Open House Night. Committee members Janet Woods, Donna Hurley and Rose Harris explained the “Bulging Backpacks” project and presented the gifts and supllies to parents, teachers and students.
The Retired Educators of Aroostook County meet four months each year. They enjoy lunch together and have a guest speaker.
If you are a retired educator and would like more information about this group, please contact Janet WWoods at 498-2482.
