WASHBURN NEWS
By Beth Boddy
On Thursday, Oct. 15, 2015, the Washburn kindergarten students got to go on a field trip to Goughan’s Farm in Caribou.
The students went on a tractor ride out to the pumpkin patch, where each of the kindergarten classes were able to find and vote on a classroom pumpkin. This was followed by ice cream and a carousel ride.
Each student also got to take home their own small pumpkin. It was a fun day for the kids.
Rotary collecting for polio
Oct. 24 is not just Make a Difference Day, it is also when Rotary Clubs from around the country will celebrate World Polio Day.
Washburn Rotary members will be out this day walking door to door to collect money to eradicate polio by providing immunizations in the few countries where polio still exists. If you do not get a visit from a rotary member, there will also be collection cans at businesses around town on Saturday.
All money that Rotary collects for polio will be matched by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.
Rotary members will also collect nonperishable food items for our local food pantry.
