Women’s Fit Night
The staff at the University of Maine at Presque Isle’s health and wellness facility will host a breast cancer awareness/women’s fit night Thursday, Oct. 22, 2015 from 4-6:30 p.m. in Gentile Hall.
There will be a $5 entrance fee at the door; all women are welcome. Proceeds will benefit the American Cancer Society Relay for Life.
Fit Night is being organized by Keli Marston, UMPI fitness and wellness coordinator, and Amanda Baker, UMPI recreation program coordinator.
Marston said, “This is a great time to hang out with the ‘girls’ and participate in climbing the rock wall — if you have never done this before, it is a great time to try it out with only other women around — and getting your heart rate up during a Fit Camp session.”
Baker will lead rock wall fun from 4-5:30 p.m. and Marson will lead Fitness Boot Camp from 5:30-6:30 p.m. Afterward, smoothies, giveaways, and a Fit Bit Zip raffle will be available.
For more information contact Marston at 768-9773 or Baker at 768-9401.
Take Back the Night
In partnership with Hope and Justice Project, UMPI will host a Take Back the Night event and candlelight march Thursday, Oct. 22, from 6:30-8 p.m., starting at Gentile Hall and continuing in the Campus Center Multi-Purpose Room.
The community is welcome. This event, organized by the Student Organization of Social Work [SOSW], is aimed at raising awareness and educating people on the issue and impact of domestic violence and sexual assault.
Candlelight walk participants will meet at 6:30 p.m. in the front lobby of Gentile Hall and proceed to the Campus Center. Once there, group members will share stories of survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault and offer inspiration and encouragement.
Casey Faulkingham, prevention coordinator for Hope and Justice Project, will give opening remarks.
