SILVER RIDGE, Maine — Hadley Davis, 7, of Silver Ridge, appeared in the bright lights of Broadway Sept. 19, as part of the National Down Syndrome Society’s (NDSS) annual Times Square Video presentation.
“The video presentation features photographs highlighting children, teens, and adults with Down syndrome, reminding the world in a very big way about the contributions and milestones of people with Down syndrome,” said Mark Priceman, senior vice president of communications for the National Down Syndrome Society. “These collective images promote the value, acceptance and inclusion of people with Down syndrome, which is the mission of NDSS.”
The photo of Davis, who happens to have Down syndrome, was selected from over 2,000 entries in the NDSS worldwide call for photos. Over 450 photographs appeared in the video.
Davis is pictured holding “Momma,” one of her many pet chickens. She is the daughter of Shawn and Charlsey Davis and the granddaughter of Charles Garnett and Jacklyn Greulich of Silver Ridge.
“We didn’t get to watch the video play in Times Square, but we did watch it on the NDSS page on You Tube,” Charlsey Davis said. “When we asked what she thought about being a ‘movie star,’ her reply was ‘It was amazing!’”
The Times Square Video presentation kicked off Down Syndrome Awareness Month in October. The video presentation was followed by the 21st Annual Flagship Buddy Walk in New York City. This year, Buddy Walk events will be held in more than 275 cities across the country, as well as select international locations, in and around October with over 300,000 people participating around the globe.
