PRESQUE ISLE – Joseph “Joey” Dube, 21 years old. On the evening of October 6, 2015, Joey passed away peacefully. He was in his favorite Shrek room at Maine Medical Center surrounded by his family and loved ones.
From the day Joey was born on March 1, 1994, he possessed a strong will of his own. He had an amazing ability to overcome incredible odds and keep smiling.
Joe graduated from PIHS in 2012 and attended “college” at PSA. He loved animals, SpongeBob, blue slushies, feeding the ducks, riding his ATV and having BBQ’s with his family. His favorite pastime was watching movies at home; pants optional and someday he was going to find the Loch Ness monster in Scotland.
Joe’s charm and vivacious grin will forever be remembered by everyone he met. Although his time was short, those touched by his gentle spirit understood how special he was. Joey wrote his own book on life. He taught us the strength of the soul, how to love unconditionally and to always leave early, since Joe moved at his own pace. We were all blessed to have him in our lives.
He is survived by his loving parents, Randy and Kathy Holmes; sister, Erin and brother-in-law, Ryan Desfosses; brother, Evan Horne; maternal grandmother, Judy O’Connor; paternal grandmother, Blanche Holmes; aunts, Maureen Burch and Colleen Good; uncle, Tom O’Connor; his cousins, Kristin and Ashley Burch, Brittany and Julia Good, Crystal Mclaughlin, and Brian O’Connor; and nephew, Brandon Cropley.
He was predeceased by his birth father, Norman Dube; maternal grandfather, Thomas O’Connor; and maternal great-grandmothers, Adeline Ladd and Margaret Roberts.
The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the Barbara Bush Children’s Hospital, his cardiologists at Congenital Heart and all the wonderful doctors and staff too numerous to name that were part of Joe’s care through the years. There is a special place in our hearts for nurse Maria Reinhard, Dr. Donnelly (known by another term of endearment by Joe) and Nicole Mizner, PNP. Because of their dedication, love and support Joey was able to create more memories with his family and friends.
There will be a viewing from 12 to 1 p.m. followed by a service of remembrance at 1 p.m. on October 26, 2015, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church located at 331 Main St., Presque Isle. A celebration of life will immediately follow at Teresa’s Cafe & Bakery. All are welcome to attend.
