The regular season is now just a memory for girls’ soccer squads as the final games of the season were played Monday for most teams. Houlton finished up its season Tuesday on the road against Mattanawcook Academy.
It appears unlikely that Houlton (11-1-1, 128.1633 points) will be able to overtake Orono (12-1-1, 152.5765) for the top seed in the Class C North region. Assuming the Shires enter the playoffs as the No. 2 seed, Houlton would earn a first-round bye and host a quarterfinal match Tuesday, Oct. 27 against the winner of the preliminary game between No. 7 and. No. 10 seeds. Mattanawcook Academy of Lincoln (7-5-2) is currently ranked seventh while Dexter (3-9-1) is in 10th.
In Class D North, Hodgdon (9-5, 63.9456 points, seventh), Southern Aroostook (7-5-2, 59.1582, eighth) and Katahdin (5-8-1, 42.6020, 10th) are all in the playoff mix. East Grand (2-10-2, 15.3827) is 14th and out of the postseason picture.
If the standings hold, Hodgdon would host the No. 10 seed (currently Katahdin) in the preliminary round Friday, Oct. 23. The two teams met twice on the season with Hodgdon winning both games — 3-2 at home Sept. 14 and 1-0 Sept. 29 in Stacyville.
SACS would host the No. 9 seed (currently Wisdom, 8-4-2) in a prelim. The two squads did not square off during the regular season.
