The Easton Parent Teacher Organization is planning a harvest party Saturday, Oct. 31 from 10 a.m.-noon at the Easton Elementary School. The group is in need of small toys (happy meal size) to use as prizes for games at this event. Donations of candy, prizes and volunteer time are always welcome.
There will be games, a cake walk and more! Admission to the event will be an item for the Easton Food Pantry. The pantry is in need of canned fruit, rice meals, corn, soups, pasta meals and cereal, as well as stuffing, cranberry sauce, canned gravy and canned fruit mix for Thanksgiving boxes. More information will be out soon.

Sixth-graders return from field trip
Students in the sixth grade have recently returned from Schoodic Point in Acadia National Park. While there, they learned about geology of the park, the rock cycle and glaciers — all during a hike. The students participated in tidepool exploration and learned about different adaptations organisms need to survive in that ecosystem. A night hike revealed different adaptations nocturnal animals may have.
The youth learned about the UTM system on a giant floor map and how to use GPS units. Following the three-day visit, they were fortunate to be able to go out in a lobster boat in Winter Harbor. While on board, they hauled up traps, banded lobsters and learned about the technology lobstermen use.
Trade show a success
On Sept. 12, 14 vendors participated in the first Easton Trade Show at Easton Elementary School as part of Easton’s year-long Sesquicentennial Celebration.
There were many raffles and giveaways. The two camp chairs raffled by McCain’s went to Carrie Hull and Tony Stevens; Huber gave away jackets to Dwight Flewelling and Maeghan Swanson, an outdoor blanket went to Joyce Clockedile, and hats were awarded to Carrie Hull, Jill Barnes, Diane Green, Rhonda Mills, Mike Garvin, Bobbi Jo Hull, Gail McPherson, Ester Richardson, Cindy Flannigan, Joyce Cummings, Steve Mills, Lisa Haney and Loris Flewelling. Katahdin Trust winners were Nina Trask, Ashley Hull, Mary Lee Keep and Larry Sullivan.
A big thank-you to the FFA, Bruce Flewelling, Jonas Swartzentruber, Elizabeth Kretschmer, Tammy Long, McCain Foods, Easton Wesleyan Church, Lucerne Farms, Bill’s Electric, Dan Ferris Inc., Kiwanis, Huber Engineered Woods and Katahdin Trust Company for participating. A piano concert featuring Duncan Cumming and pie social was held Oct. 17. Cumming received degrees from Bates College and New England Conservatory and studied at the European Mozart Academy in Progue. In 2003, he received the Doctor of Musical Arts from Boston University and then went on to join the faculty at the University of Albany. He is the great grandson of William Spence Cumming and Annie Rae Duncan — some of Easton’s original settlers.
Thank you to everyone who made it possible. The National Honor Society did a beautiful job decorating and serving. Also to the United Baptist Church, New Song Church, Wesleyan Church and Pentecost Church and The Pine Tree Baptist Church, who all provided pies and whipped cream. Cheryl Clark and her extended family also were a big part of making the event happen. The donations collected benefited the Good Shepard Food Bank.
