Hawkʼs Eye

Another week at Mill Pond saw our middle school students travel to Goughan’s Farm in Caribou to take a turn at the corn maze, hit the nine-hole mini golf courses, and enjoy some fresh and delicious ice cream. The weather cooperated and provided the perfect fall day to enjoy these outdoor activities.

The corn maze trip has become an annual event for our middle school students and focus group leaders and signals the end of the harvest and the beginning of preparations for the cold that is sure to come!

The girls’ and boys’ soccer teams ended their season on a high note with final game wins on both fields. Athletes gained experience and skill throughout the season and have emerged as teams to be reckoned with in the future.

The Mill Pond School Supper will be held on October 29, 2015 at 5:30. Families are invited to attend and enjoy a delicious meal of lasagna, salad, rolls, and dessert prepared by our wonderful kitchen crew. This is an opportunity for parents and guardians to meet the staff that helps to provide interventions available to help their children learn and find more academic success. Childcare will be provided.

If you plan to attend, you are asked to call the school with your RSVP at 532-9228 to to assist in an accurate count for the dinner. Please make plans to attend.

Our highlighted staff person for this week is another new face to Mill Pond. Mrs. Kristen Schebell fills the position of K-5 school counselor. She and her family are recent transplants from Florida, a move necessitated by her husband’s job. Kristen and her husband are parents to very busy 1-year-old twins and two fur babies, which makes for an active and noisy home.

When asked about a favorite activity or hobby she enjoys, Mrs. Schebell’s quick response was, “We are enjoying just playing outside and watching our babies explore. It’s so much fun seeing them grow and learning new things. We love taking walks all together!”

Although Mrs. Schebell is new to our area, she has held positions as both a high school and elementary school counselor. She receives great joy from working with elementary age kiddos.

Her best advice to students of today? “Follow the Golden Rule….treat others the way you want to be treated, with respect, and this world will be a much happier place.”

Her choice for a dream vacation would be to travel as a family to Bali and stay in a house poised over the tranquil blue waters. (I believe there would be many volunteers to accompany her and help with those babies!)

When asked to share a tidbit about herself that no one else would know, Mrs. Schebell said that she sucked her thumb until elementary school when her parents finally intervened and purchased something for the roof of her mouth to help her stop.

Would she do it all over again? “Absolutely! My life is crazy, but I wouldn’t have it any other way!”

Welcome to the Mill Pond family, Kristen! It’s great to have you as a member of our team.
