PET BULLETIN
‘Mews and Yips’ from the Central Aroostook Humane Society
By Gloria J. Towle
Have you adopted a pet from the Central Aroostook Humane Society? Whether it was last week, last year or 10 years ago … we want to hear from you!
One of the exciting parts of our up-and-coming fundraiser, Toast to the Animals, is showcasing our “happy endings” stories. This fun event will be held at the Campus Center at the University of Maine at Presque Isle Friday, Nov. 13, from 6-9 p.m. During our event we will be running a continuous slideshow of many of the lucky pets and happy owners we have had the pleasure of knowing.
We would love to hear from you. All you need to do is send your names and photos to cahs.success.stories@gmail.com, and we will include them in our slide show.
Our volunteers have been busy promoting this wonderful fundraiser. We have once again witnessed the generosity of businesses and individuals who have either become sponsors or are donating amazing silent auction items. We are so grateful for the support that we have received.
We are still looking for sponsors. You may want to consider sponsoring in memory of a loved one or a beloved pet. For a $100 sponsorship donation, you will receive two tickets to the event (a $30 value), recognition at the event and on the CAHS Facebook page, and the knowledge that you have played an important role in helping to shelter and protect animals in need in Aroostook County.
Part of the proceeds from the Toast to the Animals this year will go towards building a front entrance to the shelter. Also, a side entrance cover may be considered if funds are available. The front door opens directly into the shelter lobby and during the winter months, enormous amounts of heat are lost every time the door is opened — not to mention the chilly air that hits our employees and animals throughout the busy days. There are many other building repairs and updating that will hopefully be considered for future projects.
This fundraiser has grown over the past five years, and we are expecting this year’s wine and beer tasting to be bigger and better. We will have well over 90 silent auction items, a wide variety of food pairings, live music, a 50/50 raffle and door prizes. Tickets are $15 at the door, or you can purchase ahead of time at the shelter or by calling Nancy at 227-1609. You need to be 21 years of age to attend.
To be a sponsor, please call 227-1719 or email csmith.esquire@gmail.com. Donation checks can be made payable to “CAHS” and mailed to 650 Main Street, Suite B, Presque Isle, Maine 04769.
With the temperatures dropping and the cold weather upon us, please be mindful that your pets need to be protected from the elements. Always provide a warm, dry shelter and fresh water if your pets are outside. The best option of course, is to have them safe inside, where it is warm and dry, and hopefully with a loved one to curl up next to.
Please be responsible pet owners — spay and neuter your pets!
