CARIBOU, Maine — Caribou is in the running for a grant from Levitt AMP that could bring 10 weeks of live music to Sweden Street next summer.
The grant is not approved yet, however. Caribou residents need to sign up online and vote for Caribou to be one of 15 grant-winning communities.
“The whole process takes about two minutes,” said Caribou Marketing and Event Coordinator Lydia Kieffer. “You have to register, then send you an email, you confirm the registration, and then you can vote. It’s just a couple steps and it is completely worth it.”
This opportunity was created by Levitt Pavilions for small towns and cities with populations up to 400,000. The organization awards communities with up to $25,000 in matching funds for the summer shows.
Kieffer says that both community participation and the number of voters are a crucial component in ensuring that Caribou receives the grant.
“It will be a great benefit for the city economically,” says Kieffer. “It will be like Thursdays on Sweden except multiplied, which will certainly benefit the community. People are proud of this city and these shows will just strengthen that pride.”
According to Kieffer, Levitt AMP has an extensive list of bands that are approved for the shows, but Caribou also has a say in the matter.
“We get to choose from a list,” said Kieffer, “but there is also some flexibility if there is demand for a local artist.”
Voting is currently open, and closes on Nov. 30 at 8 p.m. Those who wish to vote are urged to visit https://grant.levittamp.org/voter-registration-page/ to set up an account and vote in favor of the grant.
