Partneship lauded for wellness efforts

    AUGUSTA — A local wellness collaboration recently earned an Empower Award from the Wellness Council of Maine. The County Fit & Fun! Series earned the regional partner award for compiling a diverse and family-oriented site for outdoor activities.

SH WELLNESS 44 16251375    Partners such as The Aroostook Medical Center, Competitor ME and Emera Maine are working to present community wellness offerings for companies, employees and families to support a cause or to simply enjoy a fun competition.“The number of partners and collaborators to help this series grow is representative of the entire region’s growing effort to increase physical activity levels,” WCOM officials stated in a press release. Three other organizations received statewide recognition at the conference for their efforts to improve employee well-being in Maine in 2015. They were the Hussey Seating Company, for numerous wellness support programs and lowering high employee health risk factors; the City of Portland’s City Fit! Wellness Committee, a group of employees who work to bring a variety of wellness programs to more than 1,200 city workers; and the Brewer School Wellness Team, led by Carol Warmuth, RN, who received the individual award for leadership in supporting school employee wellness.
    The Empower Award winners for 2015 were recognized at the Maine Wellness Leadership Summit and Awards Luncheon, held in Augusta. This year’s theme was “Well-being and Maine’s Aging Workforce: Strategies and Successes.”
    The WCOM is based in Bangor, with statewide representation.
