ELLSWORTH, Maine — A Houlton man is being held at Hancock County Jail in Ellsworth after a mobile meth lab was discovered inside a pick-up truck parked off Route 180, according to police.

Charged in the incident with aggravated trafficking in methamphetamine is Micah McGillicuddy, 27, according to Stephen McCausland, spokesman for Maine Department of Public Safety.

McCausland said last Wednesday in a news release that Ellsworth police found the truck after receiving a report Tuesday night of a suspicious vehicle parked on a private road. McGillicuddy reportedly fled into nearby woods after police officers found him in the truck.

Ellsworth police officers, along with Maine State Police troopers and Hancock County sheriff deputies, searched for McGillicuddy throughout the night and later took him into custody, McCausland said. The Houlton man was taken to Maine Coast Memorial Hospital in Ellsworth as a precaution after having spent much of the night outside in chilly conditions.

McGillicuddy’s truck was towed to Maine State Police barracks in Bangor where Maine Drug Enforcement Agency investigators began searching it Wednesday afternoon, McCausland said.

A total of 43 suspected meth lab incidents statewide that MDEA has handled this year, which McCausland said is “an all-time record.”
