Local youths earn state titles
Three area youths won state championships at the Maine Elks Association Soccer Shoot held in Augusta Oct. 18, 2015.
As the Maine Soccer Shoot champions in their respective divisions, the three will now compete in the Elks Area 1 (New England and New York) Championship Soccer Shoot in Hartford, Conn. Nov. 7 and 8.
Representing the Presque Isle Elks, Lodge 1954, will be Eva Callieras of Easton, under age 12 girls; Paige McHatten of Mapleton, under age 14 girls; and Jackson Maynard of Presque Isle, under age 12 boys.
“The Presque Isle Elks are extremely proud of all of the young people who participated in the Elks Soccer Shoot competition this year,” said Michael LaFrance, director of the Elks Soccer Shoot for the Maine Elks northern district. “It was from that group of talented young people that these three emerged as winners, first at the local level, then again at the district level, and now as the best in the state.
“Their success has made the heart of all Elkdom swell with pride as we wish them success in Hartford.”
