100 Years Ago – Nov. 3, 1915
Power lines–The Electrical Dept. of the Houlton Water Co. are extending their power line from the Ludwig farm on the Calais Road to the Cottle Dairy farm and the construction is now in progress.
One-cent sale- The Rexall one-cent sale, advertised in this issue, to take place this Thursday, Friday and Saturday, should be a most interesting affair.
75 Years Ago – Oct. 31, 1940
New Dial Telephones–Houlton is to have dial telephone service by end of 1941. Among the changes to be introduced with the new system will be a reduction in the number of telephones connected to party-line service.
Complimentary Meals–Passengers using afternoon flights of Boston-Maine Airways from Aroostook County points to Portland and Boston will be served at Bangor. Limousine service will be provided to Bangor where dinner will be served to passengers as guests of the airline.
50 Years Ago – Nov. 4, 1965
Sisters of Mercy–An informal reception was held honoring the Sisters of Mercy on the occasion of their 100th anniversary in the state of Maine at St. Anthony’s Hall.
Outstanding Tree Farmer–Mr. Fitzpatrick has been chosen as the State’s Outstanding Tree Farmer for 1965. His tree farm is located in Bancroft, Haynesville and Glenwood and comprises over 2,200 acres.
25 Years Ago – Oct. 31, 1990
Visit from Senator Ludwig–Houlton Women’s Club’s guest speaker Senator Ludwig spoke about strides that women have made. She stated in 1923 there was one woman in the legislature, with the number now being 48 representatives and 10 senators who are women.
Claim the EM Crown– Katahdin Lady Cougars toppled the Ashland Lady Hornets. The championship game was the sixth consecutive time the two teams have decided a game with a one-goal margin.
