Locke to assume United Way mantle
PRESQUE ISLE — Officials at the United Way of Aroostook announced Nov. 3 that Sherry Locke will become the new executive director of the organization following the retirement of present director Claudia Stevens.
Sherry Locke is leaving her position at MMG Insurance and will begin her new duties on Nov. 16. Dan Bagley, United Way president, stated, “We feel fortunate to have found an Aroostook County native passionate about our mission at the United Way and enthusiastic to start a new journey improving the lives of people right here at home.”
Locke has participated in numerous worthwhile community volunteer activities, including serving as past president and current member of the Presque Isle Kiwanis Club, treasurer of the Mapleton Parents Organization, member of the Crown of Maine Balloon Festival Committee and volunteer at the Homeless Services of Aroostook. MMG Insurance honored Locke with their internal Volunteer of the Year for 2013.
Locke has diverse work experience that makes her well prepared to take on the executive directorship. Prior to working at MMG, she managed two retail outlets in the Presque Isle area, one for nine years and the other for five years.
She obtained a bachelor of arts in criminal justice at the University of Maine at Presque Isle. Locke resides in Mapleton with her husband, Chris, and her two children, Olivia and Cameron.
The United Way of Aroostook is a non-profit organization that has mobilized resources to assist the citizens of The County since 1957 with an active 18-member volunteer board of directors representing southern, northern and central Aroostook.
