LAKEVILLE — Betty W. Malcolm, 88, Middleboro, passed away peacefully at Island Terrace Nursing Home in Lakeville on October 28, 2015 after a long illness. She was the devoted wife of Paul Malcolm of Middleboro for 66 years. Betty was born on June 12, 1927 in Littleton, Maine to the late Waldo and Beulah (Crouse) Hanning. She attended a one room schoolhouse in Littleton as a child and graduated from Ricker Classical Institute in Houlton in 1945. Betty was a member of the February 1949 class of the New England Baptist School of Nursing and graduated as an RN. She worked as a surgical nurse and later as a private duty nurse in Boston and Maine before moving to Middleboro. In the years that followed she dedicated herself to being a wonderful mother to her children. Betty enjoyed gardening and reading books about the old west, and together Paul and Betty enjoyed yard sales and traveling to historical sites throughout the US and Canada. She was the loving mother of Carol Baisden and her husband, Stephen of Scituate, and Nancy Salvaggio and her husband, Sal of Brewster. She is also survived by grandchildren ,Mallory Salvaggio of Allston and Kyle Salvaggio of Brewster; sister, Anne Hutchinson and her husband, Larry of Houlton, ME and Daytona, FL, and brother-in-law John Malcolm of Newton. She also leaves 3 nephews and nieces. She was predeceased by an infant son. She will be greatly missed by all of her family and friends. Her family would like to extend their most sincere appreciation to the devoted staff at Island Terrace Nursing Home who took such wonderful care of Betty during her illness. Burial will take place at a later date.
