City receives grant to optimize vehicle
PRESQUE ISLE, Maine — A Safety Enhancement Grant has been received from the Maine Municipal Association in the amount of $1,493.
The grant will be used to install a lift gate on a Public Works Department vehicle. The project needed to be completed for employee safety. By obtaining a grant, the city saved two-thirds of the overall cost.
This grant period, Maine Municipal Association received 132 applications and awarded $152,030 in total. Grants are awarded in May and October each year. The Association has been awarding safety grants to members of their Workers’ Compensation fund since 1999. To date, the program has assisted municipalities by funding 2,905 safety enhancement grants and 396 scholarship grants totaling $3.6 million.
