FORT FAIRFIELD, Maine — A 54-year-old man was injured last month after he was struck by a U.S. Border Patrol agent while riding his bicycle near the border patrol station, according to local police.
Arthur Wilcox was struck at about 6 p.m. on Oct. 26 at the entrance to the patrol station as Agent Benny Hernandez was making a right turn with his vehicle into the station off Limestone Road, Sgt. Shawn Newell of the Fort Fairfield Police Department said in a press release issued Tuesday.
Investigating Officer Dale Keegan reported that Wilcox was dressed entirely in black or dark clothing, “making it extremely difficult to see him at night,” according to the release.
Police also reported that “Wilcox was operating his bicycle on the wrong side of the roadway with no lighting on the bicycle and a damaged front bicycle reflector … when he crossed into the path of Agent Hernandez.”
Crown Ambulance transported Wilcox to The Aroostook Medical Center in Presque Isle and then to Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor.
No information was available on his condition from EMMC Tuesday evening.
Wilcox’s family set up a GoFundMe page seeking financial support, indicating that he had “sustained a traumatic head injury.”
Members of the Maine State Police and the Maine Warden Service were called in to do reconstruction and forensic mapping of the crash.
