MARSEILLES, IL & MAPLETON, ME – Marilyn Hope Kelly, 80, passed away Saturday, November 14, 2015, at the home she loved.
She was born April 30, 1935, in Mapleton, ME, to Charles and Ella (Archer) Wilson. She married H. Dain Kelly of Ashmore, IL, on January 21, 1954.
Marilyn is survived by her husband, Dain and their five children: Rita (Steve) Earley, Daina Kelly Bartolucci, and Tracy (Robert) Wood, all of Marseilles, Cord (Margarita) Kelly of Asuncion, Paraguay, and Scot (Cheryl) Kelly of Ottawa. She is also lovingly remembered by her 11 grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren. Also surviving is her sister, Rosemary Van Nostrand of Mayfield, NY; and her sister-in-law, Adena Wilson of Presque Isle, ME.
She was preceded in death by two sisters, Lois Weaver and Linda Wilson of Mapleton; a brother, Frederick Wilson of Presque Isle; and a brother-in-law, Brownie Weaver of Mapleton.
Marilyn worked briefly as a waitress, a secretary, and a private duty caregiver, but she was mainly performing kitchen magic and doing the best job of raising her children, before Mrs. Brady had her bunch. Along the way, she was her husband’s rock and guidance counselor that he could, and did, rely on implicitly. Also, for twelve years, she exercised and managed the care of her elderly mother-in-law with unending love and grace.
She was a fine painter. When her eyesight couldn’t support the quality of work she wanted to do, she retired the brushes and palettes.
Mainly she was Mommy, Grammie, and Nana—family always came first. Over the years, she became a consummate cook on a budget and a thoughtful and tenacious teacher and protector of her children, her grandchildren, and her great-grandchildren.
Marilyn made fast friendships with good people while living in Aroostook County, Maine, Charleston, Tuscola, and Marseilles, Illinois, and Phoenix, Arizona. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
