LUDLOW – Richard G. Warman, 89, died November 15th, 2015. He was born November 2, 1926, in Houlton , the son of Percy & Greta (Wetmore) Warman.
When Uncle Dick was a young teenager he left his home in Ludlow to have surgery at the Shriners Hospital in Massachusetts. Coming home on crutches he was told by the doctors at the hospital to go to school and be a scholar because he most likely would not walk again. Upon arriving back to the farm he immediately set his crutches in a corner to never pick them up again and walked right on into 89+ years of life. Richard graduated from Ricker College with honors as a member of the Class of 1946. This was mainly encouraged by his family to hopefully keep Dick from working so much (and that was not to be done).
He devoted his life to caring for his sisters and his mother and was a generous neighbor to many over the years, enjoying visitors who would drop by to chat. His love for the outdoors was noted in the many photos that he loved to take. The subjects of photos extended also to family and “camp.” He worked many years for DOT in Houlton in the summer and maintained Ludlow roads in the winter and was always willing to help anyone in need with his equipment. You could always find a VW in his garage and an old Jeep which were often borrowed by someone in need. His selflessness is a true testament to his memory today.
He is survived by 4 sisters: Margaret & Lawrence Clark of Ludlow, Lois Jeffery of Ludlow, Doris & Jerry Dickison of Houlton and Susan Henderson of Easton as well as nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great- nephews. He is predeceased by his parents, Greta and Percy Warman; his brother, Frederick Warman; and his niece, Joleen Britton. Friends may call from 12-1 , Sat, Nov. 21st at Bowers Funeral Home in Houlton followed by funeral services at 1:00 p.m.
Interment will follow at the Ludlow Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations in Richards memory may be made to the Shriners Children’s Hospital, 156 Carew St., Springfield, MA 01104. For online condolences please visit www.bowersfuneral.com.
