SHERMAN A Sherman man who was delusional after consuming cocaine Saturday wreaked havoc in the community after he allegedly injured himself and illegally entered three houses before he was arrested by police.

Aroostook County Sheriff Darrell Crandall said Monday that the incident began on Saturday when a caller telephoned the emergency 9-1-1 system shortly before 4 p.m in Sherman, reporting that a man had entered their residence without permission and refused to leave.

The man allegedly told the homeowner that he had been shot and was being pursued by his attacker. Crandall said that shortly thereafter, the State Police received a call from the man himself, later identified as 24-year-old Michael Bakeman.

Bakeman reported that his leg was broken and that another man had been shot.

Sheriff’s Deputies, troopers and a Game Warden promptly responded to the area to investigate. Bakeman was located in a wooded area of Route 2 in Sherman, soaked in blood, but it was determined that he had not been shot.

He reported that he and another man argued over drugs in his home, and the other man had shot someone in the Bakeman home and had then shot at Bakeman. Bakeman’s residence was then checked and there was no evidence of a shooting. Bakeman was taken by ambulance to Millinocket Hospital where he was treated for minor injuries, which police determined were caused by breaking a window. He was then released from the hospital.

Sheriff’s Deputies arrested him at that time and took him to the Aroostook County Jail in Houlton. Crandall said that deputies determined Bakeman had consumed cocaine prior the incident, which was likely the cause of his delusional behavior.

The ensuing investigation revealed that Bakeman had entered two additional residences in the area, one where the residents were home and another where they were not. It was also determined that there had been no shots fired by anyone and that Bakeman’s story was fabricated.

Crandall said that Bakeman subsequently posted bail, and will appear in Aroostook Unified Court, in Houlton, on Dec. 22. Bakeman is charged with two counts of criminal trespass, the sheriff said in a written statement Monday, and may face additional charges.
