Joins Toys for Tots
PRESQUE ISLE — Wireless Zones of Bangor and Presque Isle are partnering with the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots campaign by placing collection bins in their stores during the upcoming holiday season.
The Toys for Tots campaign delivers new toys during Christmas to less fortunate children in every community it serves. Toys can be dropped off at the Presque Isle store at 765 Main Street.
According to franchise co-owner Mindy O’Leary, the entire franchise participates in Toys for Tots as part of its efforts to give back.
“We are firm believers in participating with the community,” she said. The community keeps us going and we want to give back. And especially for local children, if we can make their holidays a little bit brighter, then we want to participate in that.”
Local store manager Dale Drost agreed. “I think it’s just awesome to be involved in this,” he said. “In fact, we will be open at 6 a.m. on Black Friday if anyone wants to donate some toys that the’ve just gotten great deals on.”
Both O’Leary and Drost emphasized that toys donated at the local store will benefit children in the local area, and said the collection bin would be set up later this week.
In 2014, Toys for Tots distributed more than 17 million toys to more than seven million less fortunate children. In addition, the organization collected more than $284 million in charitable donations, by far the most ever raised in a single year.
