HOULTON, Maine — For the past eight years, Katahdin Valley Health Center has held an employee fund-raising event to provide Thanksgiving baskets to local families. This year KVHC employees donated a total of $1,135 for the event.
That total was generously matched by the health center for a total of $2,270. This total will allow KVHC to provide 68 Thanksgiving meals to local families in Houlton, Island Falls, Millinocket, Patten, Ashland and surrounding communities.
Each basket has all the items needed to cook a complete Thanksgiving meal, including a 12-14 lb. turkey, stuffing mix, potatoes, gravy, various side dishes and trimmings, and a freshly baked pie. Community members that have received a Thanksgiving basket are given a voucher that can be redeemed for their basket at Ellis Family Market in Patten, Hannaford in Houlton, or the Ashland Food Mart.
This year’s fundraiser was once again directed by Megan Day with the assistance of Tina McNinch and Mary Michaud.
Day said of the fundraiser, “Each year KVHC employees generously donate towards our community giving initiatives, which include our Thanksgiving Meal Initiative and our Christmas Giving Tree Initiative. This year our staff has once again gone above and beyond to make sure the holidays are a little easier for those in our communities. I feel very lucky to be a part of the KVHC Team, and be able to participate in initiatives such as these, which allows us to help members of our communities.”
