GUEST SPEAKER — Jane Torres, left, president of Houlton Rotary Club, welcomes member and guest speaker Tammy Mulvey to the Nov. 9 meeting. Mulvey shared information about her family business, Pleasant View Tree Farms, that she operates with her husband Rob and son Alex.

Houlton Rotary Club members heard from member Tammy Mulvey about Pleasant View Tree Farms during their Nov. 9 meeting.

Mulvey works with her husband Rob and son Alex in their business named Pleasant View Tree Farms which sits on the Calais Road and has a great view to the west. The family started a Christmas tree farm a few years back and Rob was also doing pruning for other tree farms. Over the past five years the business has tripled in size with the addition of a retail space, a greenhouse, and landscaping work.

Some key products introduced have been fall mums and strawberries as well as a variety of landscaping plants such as balled and burlap four to five foot arborvitae, ornamental shrubs and perennials. The Mulveys also market Christmas wreaths that Tammy decorates and sells at craft fairs as well as packaging and shipping around the country. They also ship Christmas trees.

Customer service is a top priority for the business, she said. And community service is also a priority such as landscaping the new Ark Animal Shelter and donating trees to the Trees for Troops Project.

One of Rob Mulvey’s other occupations is to teach apple tree pruning in the spring and he manages other tree farms.

As with most business owners in the area, the Mulveys tend to be at work 24/7 and appear to have great energy for their work.
