Session features film on historic lumbermen
PRESQUE ISLE, Maine — The Aroostook Medical Center and the Presque Isle Historical Society will team up for the fourth time this year to bring alive a piece of years gone by in a special Wednesday, Dec. 2, 2015 presentation.
“We are changing things up a bit,” explained Kimberly Smith, secretary and treasurer of the Presque Isle Historical Society’s Board of Directors. “The society will present a special screening of ‘In the Blood,’ which uncovers the life, skills, ethics, heritage and character of turn-of-the-century Maine lumbermen and river drivers.”
The documentary combines archived film, historic photos, oral histories and an original soundtrack put together by Sumner McKane of Wiscasset, according to Smith. It is 73 minutes in length.
Though it isn’t specifically about Presque Isle, Smith said the film should prove interesting. “In our community’s formative years, our main industry was indeed lumber. Local streams and rivers were actually used to move the wood.”
The presentation is free and open to the public. It begins at 5:30 p.m. and will be held in the McCain Conference Room, located on the second floor of TAMC’s East Annex.
