Photographer speaks
PRESQUE ISLE, Maine — The University of Maine at Presque Isle will host nationally renowned and award-winning photographer and videographer Scot Miller as the next speaker in its 2015-2016 Distinguished Lecture Series.
Miller will speak Tuesday, Dec. 1 at 7 p.m. in the Campus Center and will deliver a multimedia presentation about his latest work, “Emerson, Muir, Thoreau: A Photographic Trilogy of Wildness,” the first book to visually connect the philosophies of Ralph Waldo Emerson, John Muir and Henry David Thoreau.
There will also be a reception and book signing from 5-6:30 p.m., prior to his talk, in the Reed Art Gallery, located in the Center for Innovative Learning (formerly the Library) where Miller’s exhibit “The Maine Woods” will be on display from Nov. 30-Jan. 9.
Miller is a contributor to the “Moment in Nature” videos, broadcast nationally on CBS’ “Sunday Morning.” His photographic and video collaborations include work with Yosemite Conservancy, the Walden Woods Project and the Harvard Museum of Natural History.

First Friday reception
Miller’s exhibit, “The Maine Woods,” will be featured in the Reed Fine Art Gallery Nov. 30-Jan. 9. The public is invited to view the exhibition through the show’s run and gather for a gallery reception, being held in conjunction with the Presque Isle First Friday Art Walk, on Friday, Dec. 4, from 5-7 p.m.
This event is free and open to the public. Light refreshments will be served.
The gallery is open Monday through Wednesday from 8 a.m.-10 p.m., Thursday and Friday from 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m., Saturday from 12-5 p.m. and Sunday from 5-10 p.m. The gallery is closed during University holidays.

Band presents concert
The UMPI/Community Band will present its winter concert on Monday, Dec. 7, at 7 p.m. in the auditorium of Wieden Hall.
The band is a unique ensemble whose members range from local high school students to professional musicians. The group performs modern works, classic band pieces, marches, and popular music.
