WOLCOTT, CT — Alta Shaw Joslyn, 91, died peacefully at home on November 7, 2015.

Alta was born in Monticello, Maine on November 9, 1924, the daughter of Ashel O. Shaw and Helena Kinney Shaw. Her childhood was spent growing up in Bridgewater, Maine. She was the wife of the late Wilbur B. Joslyn.

Alta would often share her childhood years and experiences of country living in the potato and dairy farmland just a short walk from the Canadian border. Watching the world and seeing that the Great Depression was not only in her life but growing through all of the states she learned to live conservatively. She watched during World War II as a teenager and into her early twenties with concerns and fears that war on her homeland was on the horizon then felt the calm relief of peace on V Day.

Alta and her young family moved in search of employment and finding some opportunities in Bristol, CT, where they resided until 1968 and then moved to Wolcott. She was a homemaker for many years raising her four boys and also worked in various job markets in Bristol and Wolcott.

During retirement she had hobbies to manage her time including gardening, baking, quilting, sketching and scrap booking, writing journals and spending time with family and her well-loved dog, Casey.

Alta was previously deceased by her brothers Mahlon Shaw of New Limerick, Maine, Russel Shaw of Bridgewater, Maine, and her sister Muriel Maxine Lipe of Avery Texas. She was also pre-deceased by her infant daughter, Leah Marie Joslyn.

Alta leaves behind four sons, Robert Joslyn and his wife Francine of Bristol, CT, Edward Joslyn and his wife, Jackie, of Massachusetts, Gary Joslyn and his wife Cheryl of Bristol CT, and Michael Joslyn of Wolcott. She also leaves behind her grandchildren Richard Joslyn and wife Randi of Lovettsville VA. Stacie Holm and husband Michael of Saint George Utah, Stephen Joslyn and wife Robyne of Bristol CT, Krysten Robbins and husband James of Canton CT, Gregory Arcaro of Bloomfield CT and a former daughter-in-law Kathleen Joslyn of Bristol CT. She also leaves behind her six great- grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

There will be no calling hours and burial will be a private ceremony at a date to be chosen by her immediate family.
