The parade was sponsored by the Limestone Chamber of Commerce, and featured numerous organizations within the town, such as the Fire and Police Departments, Williams Trucking, the Limestone Cub Scouts, Edgecomb Farms, Poitras Service, and The Aroostook Paranormal Investigation Society. Elvis Impersonator Quentin Warren even made an appearance.
“This is an annual event, it’s our kickoff to the holiday season, and it’s always the Saturday after Thanksgiving,” said Chamber President Michelle Albert. “It’s our way of bringing the community together and having a gathering of fun.”
Albert explained how the Light Parade would not be a reality without the help of other people and organizations throughout Limestone.
“Every year we work together with the Fire Department, the Rec Department, the Highway Department, and the Police Department,” said Albert. “It’s not just the Chamber putting this on. There are a number of people involved in order to get the event to go off. From advertising, to making sure the lights turn on. It’s a community effort.”
The parade began at 6 p.m., half an hour after the tree lighting, and a sizable crowd lined up along Main Street to take in the sights and sounds of the season.
“On the route, we’ll have Santa’s Express, where little kids can get onto a bus along with their parents,” said Albert. “After the Parade, they will go to the Limestone Community School cafeteria. That is where we will have opportunities to take photos with Santa, do some crafts, have some snacks, so some socializing, and hopefully everyone will be in the holiday spirit by the end of the evening.”
Albert has been involved with the Light Parade for the past five years, and adds that, though the parade is relatively small, she is very thankful for everyone that comes to participate.
“I thank everybody for coming together to make this night happen,” said Albert. “It’s always fun, and thank goodness the weather has always held out for us. I think Mother Nature is out there looking out for us.”
