     SMITH, Nathan Lee, 64, BLAINE , November, 2015. Funeral services will be held 12 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 5, 2015, at the United Baptist Church, Mars Hill. Arrangements are a under the care of Dunn Funeral Home, Houlton.

    BLAINE  — On November 28, 2015 our father, Nathan Lee Smith, 64, died unexpectedly in a car accident.  He was born February 7, 1951, in Mars Hill, to Keith Everett Smith and Sandra (Barrett) Smith Leighton.
    Dad grew up in Robinson, ME and spent the majority of his life on his family farm. He graduated from Central Aroostook High School in 1969 and earned a bachelor’s degree from University of Maine Presque Isle in 1973. He continued taking classes for years to come, as he believed in life-long learning. He was a brilliant man, and people often spoke to each of us about how impressed they were with the depth of his intelligence. He was proud of each of us and believed in our education and dreams as much, if not more than we did.
    Our father enjoyed hunting, fishing, trapping and farming. He was a member of the Maine Trappers Association and he received the Outstanding Conservation Farm award in 2004 from the Central Aroostook Soil and Water Conservation District.
    He leaves behind five children and eight grandchildren: His oldest daughter, Amy Gillen of Blaine and husband Shawn Gillen and their children Elizabeth, Natalie and Isaac; his daughter Echo Dixon, of Westbrook, ME, and husband Tom Dixon and daughter Sadie; his only son, Pippin Smith of Mars Hill, ME, and his children Pepper, Pippin, Jr and Piper; his daughter Natasha Brewer, of E Plantation, ME, and husband Steven P. Brewer, Jr, and son Ryder; his youngest daughter, Naomi Smith, of Boston, MA, and partner Cameron Chateaneuf. Nathan was predeceased by his wife, Ruth M. Smith; his father, Keith E. Smith; his brother, Jeffery H. Smith; and his brother David M. Smith. He is survived by his mother, Sandra B. Leighton; brothers, Keith “Bart” Smith and wife, Sharlene, Kevin W. Smith and wife, Sandra; sisters, Kim S. Delano and husband, Peter, Chloe B. Shaw and husband, Calvin, Leslee S. Mahon and husband, Timothy and his first wife Molly Shaw and husband Reginald “Bub” Shaw. All of Nathan’s nieces and nephews were special to him, they are: Allison Smith Charette, Matthew Smith, Michael Allen, Samuel Delano, Jacob Delano, Selena Smith Berlied, Jeffery Smith, Andrew Shaw, Amy Shaw, Julie Shaw, Jonathan Shaw, Carly Smith, Gabrielle Smith, Erik Smith, Johannah Mahon and Michael Mahon.
    He had 21 great-nieces and great-nephews: Riley, Megan, Kaden, Cole, Abbigail, Max, Iverson, Bianca, Barrett, Harper, Bradford, Derek, Abby, Ethan, Haley, Samuel, Liam, Grayson, Brayden, Jace, and Isabella. Many special aunts, uncles and cousins loved Nathan, including Aunt Norma Tweedie, Aunt Margaret Murdoch, Aunt Joyce Witherell, Uncle Ivan “Buzzy” Smith and Uncle Carl, and their families. He was very close to his special cousin Laurie Murdoch.
    Many friends and family were special to Dad and his constant teasing will always be remembered. Family and friends will gather for visitation 10   a.m.-12 p.m., Saturday, December 5, 2015 at United Baptist Church, Church Street, Mars Hill, where a funeral service will begin 12 p.m. officiated by Pastor Mitch Ross. A reception will be held at the church following the service. There will be a private family burial at the Bridgewater Corner Cemetery.
