The earlier chapter of the PT Barn story
To the editor:
The PT barn was not always PT. Long before in the early 1950s, my grandfather Elmer Davis Sr. built this on the farm where I grew up. The farm was sold to Paul Tavilla in my senior year of high school in 1964.
I was asked if I wanted to become a farmer before the deal was made and I had decided I wanted to make my own way. I had been back to the farm one time since it was sold and this was right before the buildings were demolished. I could not believe how things were let go.
I just think that the readers should know who built the barn and when it was sold the first time.
The people who built the barn were craftsmen — Clint Hewitt Herb McIntyre, Bob McIntosh, Lawrence Boucher and Dave Cyr. All of these men worked for my grandfather at one time or another, but all came together when the barn was built.
Some may remember the herd of Polled Hereford cattle my grandfather had. It is truly sad to see my old home gone and so many of the other farms along the road gone.
In my mind and heart that will forever be the Davis farm. I just thought maybe some readers might want to know the story before PT.
