Owl athletes honored
for work on the field and in the classroom

PRESQUE ISLE, Maine Members of the University of Maine at Presque Isle women’s and men’s soccer teams, the women’s and men’s cross country teams and the volleyball team received post-season recognition recently.

Women’s soccer awards were announced recently for both the USCAA and the Association of Division III Independents. UMPI had five student-athletes honored by the USCAA and four student-athletes honored by the AD3I.
Bethany Heald, a junior from Enfield; Allie Lopez, a senior from Kingsfield; and Samantha Nadeau, a sophomore from St. David, have all been selected to the USCAA Soccer National All-Academic Team and the AD3I All-Independent Second Team.
A student-athlete must have a 3.5 grade point average and sophomore standing or higher to qualify for the all-academic team. Heald was also selected as a forward on the AD3I squad, while Lopez made it as a goalkeeper and Nadeau as a forward. Heald scored six goals and had one assist in 15 games this season, Lopez had 153 saves on the season and a 71.8 save percentage, while Nadeau scored five goals and had five assists in 13 games.
Autumn Poulin, a sophomore from Winslow, and Abigail Rittano, a senior from Abbot, were both named to the USCAA Soccer National All-Academic Team, while Mikaelah Tracy, a junior from Houlton, was selected as a defender on the AD3I All-Independent Second Team. She scored five goals and had one assist in 15 games this season.
For the men’s team, A.J. Dolley, a junior from Whiting, made the all-academic team, while Caleb Bragg-Grady, a junior from Whitefield, made the AD3I All-Independent First Team and was also named Goalkeeper of the Year after making 138 saves and holding a 3.77 goals against average in 16 games played.
Making the AD3I All-Independent Second Team were Chris Daly, a sophomore from Kingsfield, and Derek Healy, a junior from Hanover. Daly made the team as a midfielder and had three goals and an assist for the Owls, while Healy, selected as a forward, had five goals and five assist in 17 games.
Cody Blair, a freshman from Ashland, made honorable mention as a forward after scoring seven goals and assisting on three others during the campaign.
In women’s cross country, freshman Chenoa Jackson of Wilton was an honorable mention choice on the AD3I All-Independent Team, while senior Shawna McDonough of Alexander and Kristen Westrack, a senior from Calais, both made the USCAA All-Academic Team.
On the men’s cross country team, Sully Jackson, a junior from Wilton, made the all-academic team and also was an AD3I All-Independent honorable mention. Connor Hrynuk, a freshman from Boonville, N.Y., made the All-Independent Second Team, while Trevor Levesque, a sophomore from Presque Isle, was another honorable mention on the AD3I All-Independent Team and Saul Nunez, a sophomore from Mapleton, and Corey Hebert, a senior from West Baldwin, made the all-academic team.
In volleyball, Hannah Boyce, a senior from Bar Harbor, joined teammates Abby Jewett, a senior from Bass Harbor, and Hannah Williams, a freshman from Park Falls, Nova Scotia, on the All-Independent Second Team. Boyce averaged 1.6 kills and had 55 service aces, while Jewett averaged 1.83 kills and led the Owls with 226 digs and Williams compiled 232 assists.
Katie Patenaude, a senior from Presque Isle, and Morgan Swan, a senior from Caribou, were both part of the all-academic team.
