The Caribou Vikings’ wrestling team wrapped up its preseason schedule with a meet in Bucksport Saturday.
At the Ryan Detour Tournament, Trevonte Caudill paced the Vikings with the championship in the 138 lb. division. Caudill garnered wins over opponents from Mt. View, Ellsworth, Schenck and Dexter to earn the gold medal. Six teammates also medaled — Evan Michaud in 120 and Isaiah Thayer in 220 both taking second, Cory Jandreau in 132 taking third and Marcus Caudill in 120, Dustin DeMerchant in 220 and Colton Conley in 285 all taking fourth.
The team also made the trip to Howland Nov. 21 to participate in the PVHS Preseason Tournament, with 11 athletes garnering medals.
Tre Caudill came in first once again in 138, while Lucas Doucette (152) and DeMerchant both came in second.
Third-place medals went to Michaud, Eric Simon (170) and Joey Cyr (182), while taking fourth in their respective divisions were Jandreau, Devin Roy (152), Alton Pelletier (170), Thayer and Jarred Jordan (285).
“I thought we did pretty good,” said Viking coach Chico Hernandez, “and maybe even exceeded our expectations.”
Caribou will host a tournament beginning at 1 p.m. Saturday. Penobscot Valley High School of Howland, Piscataquis Community High School of Guilford, Bucksport, Dexter, Washington Academy of East Machias, Mattanawcook Academy of Lincoln are all expected to compete.
