CARIBOU — Caribou High School, with the help of the National Honor Society, just received a new Student of the Month display board. The costs involved with this project are roughly $1,200, and the NHS played a significant role in raising some of that money, according to Adviser Kenneth Atcheson.

According to Atcheson, the National Honor Society “secured some of the funding from donations from the Classes of 2015 and 2016, a Hat and Shades Day Sale at CHS, and from some limited school funds.”
“We went to Fort Fairfield High School for the NHS,” said NHS member Benjamin Ezzy, “and we saw a plaque dedicated to their Student of the Month. We thought it would be a good idea to do something like that here to recognize the Student of the Month, and to celebrate the good accomplishments of our students. So, we designed this based on what we saw and added a little bit of our own creative ideas.”
Ezzy was part of an NHS committee, which also consisted of Molly Adams, Maria Espinosa, Michael Hunter and Donovan Savage, that collectively brainstormed concepts for the board and presented the result to CHS Principal Travis Barnes. Once Barnes approved the idea, the committee contacted Leo Bard of the S.W. Collins Company, who developed a scale drawing and gave a price proposal.
The display, which is made of natural oak and has an acorn finial, prominently displays the Student of the Month’s photograph along with a brief writeup detailing their accomplishments. Below, there are pictures of high-schoolers who were previously voted Student of the Month.
Though the Caribou NHS raised a significant amount of money for the board, they were not able to procure enough to completely cover the bill. Atcheson urges any “individual or group willing to help with the cost” to contact him at katcheson@rsu39.org or to call 493-4260.
