HOULTON, Maine — Northern Maine Community College (NMCC) and University of Maine at Presque Isle (UMPI) students, faculty, and staff participated in the second annual Food Fight Challenge at the Houlton Higher Education Center (HHEC).

Canned goods and non-perishable items were collected from Oct. 19 to Nov. 12, 2015 and placed in the respective school’s donation receptacle. Other members from HHEC, including students from University College at Houlton, Adult Education Houlton/Hodgdon, and the Carleton Project, as well as community visitors, also participated in the challenge by bringing in items.

Coffee and donuts were provided on the final collection day and a tally determined UMPI as the trophy recipient. Otis Smith, director of the Houlton-based NMCC program, reluctantly relinquished the trophy awarded to them last year to Tracy Rockwell, director of HHEC. Several students and staff members were on hand for the Coffee Break.

Roger and Kathy Dyer, representing St. Mary’s Food Pantry, were also present to receive the donated goods. They were also presented with $30 in cash donated by students.
