Animal Control Care Corner

Well, it’s been some time since we have used the column, but I’m sure you all have been kept up to date on the happenings around your town and others. Our Facebook page of Animal Care and Control of Maine under my name is still active.

Compared to what we had done in the past you could almost consider us dormant at times lately. We still post or share things that might be helpful along with some interesting articles and pictures. Our pictures for the most part have been of the wild type lately, but they too stir the interest in you all.

This letter is just to inform or remind you that, now that winter is back, the care of animals domestic and wild will be even more of a challenge for some. The most important would be those out there who have domestic animals and who can’t seem to make ends meet at times. Some are too proud to ask for help, even if it be for their own, let alone for their fur families.

So I guess I am asking all to keep an eye out for those in need for any reason, and at least try to help if you can. If owners can’t feed or care for themselves then they can’t take care of their animals. I hope I see some type of boxes go up in different stores just for donations of food for animals this winter. It would help and it’s a start.

I will think on this some more and post more information about how to do it later. It would be nice to see people getting involved with helping one another instead of fighting or complaining about everything. Getting involved and lending a helping hand goes a lot further.

Don’t forget that all the shelters still need your help, also. I am sure that if you ask they will tell you what is most important on their list of things needed. And don’t forget that the Penobscot Valley H.S. Shelter in Lincoln also contracts with our towns up here, so they too could use the help. It’s not about where they are as much as where our lost animals or those in need go that counts when it comes to helping.

Once again, if you have questions or information that pertain to animals you can email or call or message me on our Facebook page, and if you want it kept confidential, just say so. Thank you for reading.
