RSU 29 board has vacancies

HOULTON, Maine — Like many other school boards in the region, the RSU 29 board is struggling to find enough members to fill all of its seats.

The board welcomed one new member Monday evening, Karter Kenney, a representative for Houlton, who was elected in November as a write-in candidate. However, the board also learned that longtime member Sandra Wilkins was resigning from her position as a Monticello rep. Wilkins has served on the board for the past 10 years.

There is also one vacancy for a Littleton board member that has been left unfilled for some time.

The current board includes: Houlton representatives Fred Grant (chairman), Bruce Clark, Tammy Goetsch, Lori Holmes, Susan McLaughlin, Scott White, Sue Tortello and Kenney; Jim Quirk (vice chair), Littleton; Jennifer Johnston, Monticello; and David Loendorf, Hammond.

Filling an unexpired term until the next election is the responsibility of each town’s board of selectmen. The Littleton seat has been empty for a number of months. Any town member interested in filling that spot should contact the Littleton Town Office at 538-9862.

Any Monticello resident interested in filling that town’s vacant seat should contact the Monticello Town Office at 538-9500.
