HOULTON, Maine — The Southern Aroostook Cultural Arts Project, in conjunction with the Health Services Foundation, recently completed its third annual Festival of Trees fundraiser event at ‘Visions’ Art Gallery located in Market Square in Houlton and at Houlton Regional Hospital.
A total of 18 fully-decorated trees were raffled off as a fund-raising event. The winners were drawn Saturday, Nov. 28, 2015.
“SACAP/Visions/Blue Moon Gallery is thrilled with this year’s participation in this very worthwhile and beneficial event, which was held to bring attention to the need for additional medical equipment and the enhancement of the arts in the Greater Houlton community,” said Harriet Huntley, SACAP/Visions president and resident artist. “Our mission is to continue to foster a flourishing art community while creating an exciting cultural environment.
“We offer a place for local artists to showcase and sell their work, as well as classes, artist shows, and workshops to reach out to help get adults and youth in our community involved. It is our belief that through the arts, we can truly reach across borders,” she added.
“The Foundation will use its share of the proceeds to assist with the purchase of a new coagulation instrument for Houlton Regional,” explained Elizabeth Dulin, executive director for the Health Services Foundation. “This is a vitally needed piece of equipment as it is used to perform testing to evaluate patients for bleeding abnormalities, monitoring anticoagulant therapy (coumadin and heparin), and checking patients for blood clots. Also the emergence of new anticoagulant medication requires new technology for its monitoring, and this new instrument will provide such testing. In keeping with Houlton Regional Hospital’s mission to provide reliable, state-of-the-art care for the
