‘Cooking Matters’
offers healthy shopping tour
PRESQUE ISLE — Healthy Aroostook, a program of the Aroostook County Action Program (ACAP) and a Healthy Maine Partnership, will offer a “Cooking Matters at the Store” shopping tour at Graves Shop ‘n Save in Presque Isle Friday, Dec. 18, from 3-6 p.m.
Educators will coordinate information tables with samples, recipes and activities throughout the store. Every participant who visits each station and completes a short survey will receive a $10 gift card, shopping bag and cookbook at the end of the tour. This event is free and open to the public.
Tour participants will gain a variety of practical skills including buying fruits and vegetables, comparing unit prices to find bargains, reading and comparing food labels, identifying whole grains, all while sticking to a budget.
“Cooking Matters at the Store shopping tours offer new tips and tools to purchase healthy foods on a budget,” stated Katharine Putnam, ACAP community education specialist and nutrition educator. “The tours are lots of fun and very hands-on!”
