NMCC recognizes 12 for milestone service
PRESQUE ISLE — More than 200 years of service to higher education in Aroostook County were recognized recently as Northern Maine Community College honored 12 employees who have reached milestones of employment to the campus.

RECOGNIZED FOR SERVICE — Among the employees recognized recently by Northern Maine Community College were, from left: seated, Starr Flewelling and Eric Pelkey, both of Presque Isle, who were honored for five years of service; and in back, Dennis Dyer of Presque Isle, 10 years; Leah Buck of Mapleton, 20 years; JP Levasseur of Caribou and David Raymond of Presque Isle, 25 years; and Joe McLaughlin of Limestone and Cindy Albert and Tom Richard, both of Mapleton, for 30 years of service.
Over 70 employees and college retirees gathered for a luncheon to recognize faculty and staff members, five of whom have been with NMCC for more than a quarter of a century. Academic Dean, Dr. Dottie Martin, led the recognition event which featured touching and humorous tributes to the honorees by their fellow colleagues.
“It is events like this that remind us that it is the people here at NMCC who make the difference in the lives of our students and who are the reason why we have been so successful for five decades,” said NMCC President, Tim Crowley.
“Time and again we hear from students, parents and alumni about how great an impact NMCC has made in their lives or the lives of their children. Everyone who shares this sentiment with me speaks of the individuals on the College faculty and staff who were instrumental in helping to achieve their goals and realize their dreams.”
Three NMCC employees had the distinction of reaching 30 years of service at the college. Cindy Albert of Presque Isle, the administrative specialist for Student Services; Joe McLaughlin of Limestone, the computer and network technology instructor; and Tom Richard of Presque Isle, director of the Smith Wellness Center, were recognized for this significant achievement.
Marking a quarter century of service to NMCC were David Raymond of Presque Isle, arts and sciences department chair, and JP Levasseur of Caribou, science and math.
The twenty-year honor was presented to Leah Buck of Mapleton, assistant dean of continuing education.
Greg Thompson of Washburn, life sciences instructor, was recognized for 15 years of service.
Marking 10 years of service was Dennis Dyer of Presque Isle, the Commercial Driving Academy instructor.
Four employees were honored for five years of service: Beth Hummel, of Ashland, a business technology instructor; Starr Flewelling of Presque Isle, the College Store assistant; Eric Pelkey of Presque Isle, an English instructor; and Rick Taggett of Woodland, welding instructor.
