MAPLETON – Evelyn B. Morton, 84, of Mapleton, passed away Monday, December 14, 2015 at the Presque Isle Nursing Home.
Evelyn “Kitty” Morton was born October 28, 1931 in Oakfield, the daughter of Harry and Avis (Shorey) Wright.
Kitty graduated from the Oakfield school system and attended Zion Bible Institute in Providence, Rhode Island, graduating in 1953. Kitty married Donald Morton on April 28, 1955 and together they had five children. Donald and Kitty established the Masardis Pentecostal Church and pastored there for 31 years before retiring and moving to Mapleton in 1994. Kitty enjoyed her years in ministry in Masardis. She especially loved to study the Bible and play gospel music on the piano, accordion and especially the organ, and created a sizable orchestra at the Masardis Pentecostal Church during her time serving that ministry.
Kitty is survived by her husband of 60 years, Donald James Morton, and her five children and their spouses; Donald, Jr. and his wife, Cindy, of Masardis, Linda Sharp & her husband, Danny, of Mapleton, Karen MacDonald and her husband, Gene, of Masardis, Kevin Morton and his wife, Peggy, of Masardis and David Morton and his wife, Donna, of Ashland; a sister, Joyce Tardie; and a sister-in-law Ann Wright. Kitty is also survived by 17 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.
Kitty was predeceased by her father and mother, Harry and Avis Wright; a sister, Velma Heath and her husband, Bill; brothers, Bob Wright and his wife, Betty, and Henry Wright.
