SMYRNA — A Canadian man was cited for imprudent speed after he lost control of his vehicle while passing two cars heading north on Interstate 95 on Monday afternoon and ended up striking both, according to the Maine State Police.
Cheuk Chan, 20, of Fredericton, New Brunswick, drove his 2015 Ford into the passing lane of I-95 to go by Allen Lefay, 68, and Cheryl Lefay, 67, a husband and wife from Palmyra, who were traveling north together in separate vehicles when the accident happened at 2:05 p.m., according to a news release issued Monday evening by Sgt. Jeffrey Clark.
Chan lost control of his vehicle due to slushy conditions and skidded off the left side of the roadway, striking a guardrail, Clark reported. The Ford then slid back out into the roadway striking both vehicles operated by the Lefays — a 2001 Buick driven by the husband and a 2013 Buick driven by the wife.
All three drivers were wearing seat belts, and no injuries were reported.
Chan was issued a traffic summons for imprudent speed, according to Clark.
