CARIBOU, Maine — Residential homes and businesses alike were adorned with flashing lights and a myriad of seasonal decorations for the city of Caribou’s Winter Decorating Contest, and now the winners have been announced.
The contest had three categories, traditional, non-traditional and business. Each first-place winner was awarded $100. In addition, photos of each home were uploaded to Facebook, and the picture in each category with the most likes also wins the people’s choice prize of $25.
Sherry’s Beauty Salon on Sweden Street won first place and People’s Choice for the business category. Farms Bakery and Coffee Shop on 118 Bennett Drive won second place for having the best decorated business.
A home on 62 Paris Snow Drive, which had a wreath in every window and a multitude of bright white lights, won first place in the traditional category. The second place and People’s Choice award in the traditional category went to a home on 552 East Presque Isle Rd., in which both the house and trees were neatly decorated with hundreds of lights.
The first-place award for non-traditional decorations went to a home on 41 Russ St., which had colorful lights and decorations, and several red and green candy canes lighting up its perimeter. Second place and People’s Choice in the non-traditional category went to a house on 39 Russ Street. Aside from the many blue and white lights illuminating the home’s exterior, there were also angels and a snowman in the front yard, composed almost entirely out of blue and white lights.
Sponsors for this year’s Winter Decorating Contest include RE/MAX Central, Mavor Optical Family Eyecare, Mockler Funeral Home, and Aroostook Limousines.
