Joyce Knorr
CARIBOU — After nearly nine years at the helm of the American Red Cross’ Aroostook County office, Joyce Knorr announced Dec. 15 that she will retire.
Knorr, the community manager for the American Red Cross of northern and eastern Maine, said her official retirement date will be after her replacement is found.
As the Aroostook County branch manager, Knorr has overseen the planning and delivery of Red Cross services to the Aroostook County area — including responses to home fires and the introduction of a fire safety campaign — since 2007.
Knorr leads the chapter’s Leadership Team, working with employees and volunteers to facilitate disaster planning and securing funding for disaster relief and operations. She is also trained in health and safety service planning and worked as a backup disaster case worker.
When asked what she considered her biggest accomplishment, Knorr replied, “Building awareness about the Red Cross and the number of services we provide to community members, businesses and organizations, and also growing our volunteer team of board members and increasing the numbers of disaster responders in The County five-fold.”
“Joyce has done an incredible job building and promoting Red Cross programs,” said Patricia Murtagh, CEO of the American Red Cross in Maine. “Her focus has always been on helping our neighbors and our communities. We’ll miss her professionally and personally.”
Knorr will stay on to help with the transition and the introduction of her replacement. Her final day will likely be in late spring.
