On Dec. 13 the Whittier Congregational Church held their annual Christmas party in the vestry of the church following the church service.
A good group attended and all enjoyed the short game that was played before the Yankee swap was begun. There was much fun and laughter and many gifts changed hands before they were through. Following all this a lovely potluck dinner was served and many hands were available for the cleanup after a fun time.
Despite the six inches of snow that fell on Dec. 15, the Happy Losers still held their weekly meeting at the Baptist Church on Dec. 16 and, following this, all members took to the highway and drove to the Brookside Inn restaurant in Smyrna for their annual Christmas party. The roads were in very good condition and all made it with no problems. Our party was very successful, with much fun during the opening of the gifts, with good food served to us by Kim, our favorite waitress.
Members attending were Lois Green, Kay Rideout, Selena Grant, Loretta Bouchard, Cecelia Brown, Riva Hawkes, Dottie Rand, Jackie Pratt, Shirley Sides, Joanie Sides, and our part-time member, Jane Fitzgerald, who drove up from Millinocket to join in the fun.
Despite the bad weather, I am still feeding lots of birds and that now includes many juncos, who have suddenly appeared the past few days, and also the female finches have arrived so my many chickadees have lots of company now. I watched the pair of cardinals during the snow we got, and they were right there busily eating the sunflower seeds I threw out under the cedar tree. The smaller birds did not disturb them at all so I got a good look at the pair of them.
I had to do a bit of shoveling next day to get at one feeder that was swamped with snow, but got it out at last and now all my feathered friends are happy and full.
I did get some old bread and apples out, too, for the deer and it was all gone next morning, with lots of deer tracks everywhere.
