Secession Committee delayed but not defeated

To the editor:

As the Christmas holiday approaches, the Caribou Secession Committee would like to take this opportunity to update our supporters living in rural Caribou about the progress made by the Secession Committee.

As you may recall, we told everyone from the outset, that the law governing secession from a municipality would require a long, drawn-out effort which would likely take several years to complete. That’s still the case. In fact, due to the inappropriate actions of the Maine Legislature, the secession effort just got a little longer.

Our bill request seeking their authorization to hold a referendum vote in the secession territory will not be considered until the first regular session of the 128th Legislature in January 2017.

We have been delayed, but not defeated. Our resolve to see this through to the end is stronger than ever and we will continue to fight for the future we deserve.

The future town of Lyndon is much more than a dream; it’s an eventuality! Our vision of Lyndon is a place where families can grow and prosper without the onerous burden of big city property taxes, a place where farmers can afford to farm and a place where citizens can vote on municipal spending, which gives them direct control over their taxation.

And most importantly, Lyndon will provide its citizens with a better living experience by providing the quality services you need, and none you don’t need, while cutting your tax bill by 28 percent.

As always, you can get the latest news on our progress by searching Facebook for the Caribou Secession Committee.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to all citizens of Caribou!
