On Nov. 30, at 7:40 a.m., Houlton Police were notified that a person had burglarized the business, located at 53 Main St.
“Overnight, someone entered the business and stole a small amount of cash and a laptop computer,” said Houlton Police Chief Joe McKenna. “Nothing else had been disturbed.”
Because there was no forced entry to the business, police surmise that the person entered the property through an open door on the third floor, which leads to several apartments. That door was not locked, McKenna said.
“We were told the door was never locked because it was viewed as a fire exit,” he said. “That cannot be a fire exit, because it is an internal exit. Fire exits must be on the outside.”
McKenna said some filing cabinets were also rummaged through, with a small amount of cash and receipts taken from that location.
