Santa visits, actors sought

Santa visits Washburn
On Saturday, Dec. 12, 2015, Santa made a trip to visit our little town of Washburn. He arrived atop one of our very own Washburn Fire Department trucks and had a little tour through town before arriving at Story Park to a crowd of excited children and parents.
The Washburn Fire Department were at the park with hot cocoa from Tim Hortons and a small bonfire to help keep us all warm. The children lined up and each had their turn to sit on Santa’s lap and tell him what they wanted for Christmas. Each child then received a Fire Department hat and a small bag of goodies.
Everyone looked like they were having a great time and we all want to thank Santa for taking time out of his busy schedule to visit with us.

Young actors sought
Auditions for the Children’s Stage Adventures production of “The Princess and the Pea” will be held at 11:45 a.m., Monday, Jan. 4, 2016, at the Washburn District Elementary School gym.
Approximately 50 local children, grades 1-8, will be cast to appear in the show with CSA actors/educators Lauren Lamber and Joel Oramas.
The performance will take place on Friday, Jan. 8 at 6:30 p.m. at Washburn Elementary School. Tickets at the door will be $5 each.
“The Princess and the Pea” is a new musical version of the classic fairy tale. As a prince comes of age, his doting parents tell him it is time to marry a princess. No princess can be found locally, so the prince goes on a quest to find her. Finding no suitable princesses on his quest, the prince returns home. Then on a dark and stormy night, there is a knock at the door and soaked stranger enters the castle and introduces herself as a princess! The queen does not believe her and puts her through a test to prove she is a true princess and worthy of the prince. Silliness and song carries the story to a happy ending for all.
Rehearsals will be conducted from 2:30-7 p.m. every day of the week prior to performances., although not all cast members will be needed at every session. The first rehearsal will begin about 30 minutes after the auditions.
Lauren Lambert of Milford, N.H., and Joel Oramas of Bridgeport, Conn., will be the team of actor/educators from Children’s Stage Adventures. This is the team’s first tour with CSA though both have extensive backgrounds working with children in theatre.
2015-16 is Children’s Stage Adventures seventeenth year touring across the northeast US and Canada, with 70+ residencies scheduled. Based in Sullivan, NH, CSA is a non-profit organization supported in part by charitable donations. This coming year hundreds of cast members will take to the stage to the delight and applause of their families, friends, communities, neighbors and teachers.
The residency in Washburn is made possible by the Washburn 21st Century After School Program, Washburn School District and community sponsors including Aroostook Partners in the Art and Old Iron Inn.
Come out and support the youth of your community while enjoying a great show.
