Managers from Marden’s in Presque Isle recently visited the maternal/child services nursing staff at Cary Medical Center, bringing with them 88 handmade quilts and blankets that were hand sewn by several Marden’s customers or “blanketeers,” as part of Project Linus. Darlene Ouellette, seated at left, assistant manager of the Presque Isle Marden’s store and a quilter, and Debbie Cyr, supervisor of the store’s fabrics department, standing, third from left, present the blankets to Cary nurses. Project Linus, with chapters in all 50 states, collects blankets locally and distributes them to children in hospitals, shelters, social service agencies, or anywhere a child might be in need of a big hug. This year, the Presque Isle store has collected about 210 blankets and quilts for hospitals and service agencies throughout Aroostook County.
